Analyzing Visa Processing
I am in the United States and would like to adjust my status. How do I do that?
If you are eligible to apply for a green card without leaving the U.S., you must file Form I-485 (Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status) with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
You will also need to submit supporting documents (proof of eligibility, medical exam results, etc.) and pay the filing fee. The process may include biometrics and an in-person interview.
I moved. How do I give you my new address?
You must notify USCIS within 10 days of moving. You can update your address online through the USCIS website using Form AR-11 (Alien’s Change of Address Card) or by calling the USCIS Contact Center. If you have a pending case, update your address for each application separately.
What do I need to do to add an attorney to my case?
To authorize an attorney or accredited representative to act on your behalf, you must submit Form G-28 (Notice of Entry of Appearance as Attorney or Accredited Representative) to USCIS or the appropriate immigration agency. This allows your representative to receive case updates and correspondence.
How do I transfer my Immigrant Visa case from one embassy or consulate to another?
You must send a written request to the National Visa Center (NVC) or the U.S. embassy/consulate currently handling your case. Provide your case number, personal details, and the reason for transfer. The receiving embassy/consulate must also have jurisdiction to process your visa application. Approval depends on the specific circumstances and workload of the offices involved.
